Re: anybody here ever used a Remmington model 700 titanium?
For 1500 bucks I can shoot SKS till the end of my natural lifespan. I will buy 4 and get all the ammo so when I will freeze myself, get unfrozen and resurected, get some nanobots to build me a new body with 8 octopus tentacles and be able to shoot 4 rifles at a time.

Whats the advantage of such a light rifle in a heavier caliber like 30-06? Wouldn't the recoil be somewhat inhibitive?

I'd agree, I just like to shoot, haven't hunted in years. If I did hunt I'd love the titanium. For targets I'll stick with the bulk. Another thing to consider. All of my rifles are Rem 700s therefore I have parts that are interchangeable. I don't know if the titanium architecture is the same as the regular Rem 700, should that be a concern to you. It boils down to the right tool for the job. so what is the job you are looking to accomplish. |
Re: anybody here ever used a Remmington model 700 titanium?
I shot the regular 700s, but not the Titanium.... I love the regular ones...
My next rifle will be one of the 700s, like a VS SF II or something with the heavier Varmit barrel... Not sure on the size yet... I almost with I could get it in 7.62x39 as round for my AK are so cheap... That is, if a 700 will feed junky mil-surplus pretty good... Even some bolt actions are picky... I reality, I think I might be better off buying a few hundred rounds for each of the weapons I already have, vs adding another caliber to the lot, thus needing even more ammo... |

I like the old Model 788 Remington. The most accurate off the shelf rifle ever for the money

Re: anybody here ever used a Remmington model 700 titanium?
I was faced with the "Mountain Rifle" dilemma a couple years ago. What I found is they there are few choices. And far less choices in anything hotter than 30-06. So I settled for a Ruger 77 lightweight in stainless and synthetic stock in 30-06. The barrel looks pencil thin, but it it shoots moa out of the box (after installing a Timney trigger) with factory ammo.
The synthetic stocks Ruger now uses are much better than their funny-looking earlier ones that made rifles kick like a mule. A mountain rifle gets banged around some, so having Rugers scope mounting system is a big advantage over Remington, IMO. If you like to spend a little money and get what you pay for, Sako makes a rifle similar to mine but the action is a LOT smoother, which might be handy in a bear confrontation. |

especially for bear country, if you wanted a light compact rifle in a major caliber why not get one of those pistol deals? a friend had one in 3006 which kicked like a mule. single shot with a cannon-style breach loading mechanism, forget the brand.
